Kurul Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The past Soviet 13th Party of Aerial Geological Survey proposed the Kurul Rock Series in 1953. The Compiling Group of Regional Stratigraphical Scale, the Xinjiang Uygur Zizhiqu Fascicle quoted the Kurul Fm in 1981 but originally with no type section indicated. Lin Baoyu et al proposed two sections in 1984; based on the described lithology and fossils of these two sections the compilers of the present Lexicon selected the first section for the representative type section of the Kurul Fm, which is located at Nangou of Nailengele River – the right tributary of Jifuke River in the upper reaches of Dujing River, southeast of the Jinghe County seat, Xinjiang. The reference section is at the roadside, 4 km south of Xin'ertai, Huocheng County, Xinjiang.
Synonym: (库茹尔组) ; Kuruer Fm

The formation, 290-278 m in thickness, consists of gray green massive sandstone and calcareous micritic sandstone intercalated with siliceous siltstone and bioclastic limestone.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It is in fault contact with the underlying Hudukdaban Fm (Hudukedaban Fm) of the Upper Ordovician. Regionally, the next older unit is the Jebki Fm of mid-Silurian.
Upper contact
It is conformably overlain by the Borohoroshan Fm
Regional extent
The formation is steady in lithology and increases in thickness, and in limestone content intercalated with multiple layers of conglomerate as well, at Huocheng.
